Job Description: The Senior Consultant, Insurance & Financial Risk is responsible for assessing potential risks to property, persons, and financial loss.
The senior consultant will identify and implement procedures and processes that continually work towards reducing the total cost of risk for the organization.
This position will be the primary contact with insurance broker and insurance carriers.
They will regularly communicate with state and federal agencies to ensure the organization is compliant with insurance regulations.
The senior consultant will oversee the insurance application process.

Major Responsibilities: 1.
Responsible for management and administration of a corporate insurance and financial risk management program to protect BGHS, GHS, BHS and affiliates from loss relating from unexpected or unintended events and serve as the organizational expert on insurance risk management to ensure the highest level of quality, service, and efficiency.
2.
Implement a strategic insurance and financial risk management vision for the system and lead a robust and creative financial risk management program working in support of the mission.
3.
Responsible for proactively assessing potential risks to property, persons, and financial loss and determining if these risks can be mitigated through implementing changes to standard operating procedures or transferring the risk through new risk management programs including the use of commercial insurance, self-insurance, captives, and other alternative risk financing programs.
4.
Use systems thinking to identify, coordinate, and implement risk mitigation strategies with other leaders throughout the system.
5.
Oversee the insurance application process, verifying data obtained from insured entities; compiling data for the system, and reviewing final application forms before submission to markets.
6.
Serve as liaison to, and maintain healthy relationships with, all BGHS internal departments and controlled entities, working with them to manage their risks and collaborating on determining applicable insurance or other risk mitigation strategies.
7.
Determine whether losses are insurable or non-insurable events and be an advisor to Legal team members and leadership for those matters.
Monitor claims and work with the adjuster advocating and negotiating for a fair settlement.
Obtain settlement authority.
Initiate and manage claims against third parties and their insurance carriers when the claim falls under the deductible or is not covered by a BGHS policy.

Establish and manage insurance budget to implement the appropriate levels of risk financing, including establishing reserves and purchasing insurance products to transfer risk.
Continuously work to reduce the total cost of risk for BGHS on all fronts, reporting the same annually to the BGHS finance committee.
9.
Be the primary contact with insurance broker and all insurance carriers for all insurance policies.
Coordinate, and when appropriate, participate in on-site visits by insurance carriers.
Direct broker activities on all insurance programs, maintaining an ongoing interface with incumbent.
Continually evaluate broker services, recommending broker review when necessary.
Maintain relationships with potential brokers and carriers.
Conduct RFPs as needed.

Work with entity and departmental leaders to ensure that any new exposure created by a BGHS entity is adequately insured, and manage risks resulting from mergers or acquisitions.
11.
Monitor the insurance industry providing sound alternative solutions for risk.
Present solutions to other stakeholders and be a decision maker on those teams to determine best approach for BGHS.
12.
Work with state and federal agencies to ensure compliance with insurance regulations.
This list includes but is not limited to the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance, Injured Patients and Families Compensation Fund, Wisconsin Compensation Rating Bureau, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Department of Transportation, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, and the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.

Facilitate and respond to claims made by visitors who are injured on Gundersen property.
Work collaboratively with Bellin and Gundersen safety and facilities managers to remedy existing hazards and prevent future staff or visitor injury.
14.
Possess expert-level understanding of insurance policy language.
Review contracts for appropriate insurance coverage and identify gaps in coverage.
Negotiate and modify contracts as needed to accept or transfer risk.
Work with Bellin and Gundersen Legal department to develop contract templates to establish standards.
Assess subcontractor/independent contractor insurance adequacy.
Interface with vendors providing evidence of insurance as required by written contract.
15.
Work with Gundersen Treasury department to perform security administrator functions for financial accounts.
Perform monthly accounting journal entries and reconciliations related to allocation of insurance costs and maintain analysis of balance sheet accounts relevant to the insurance program.
Establish and maintain a comprehensive analysis of reserves throughout the year and at the end of the year in accordance with GAAP for financial audit purposes.
16.
Direct the development and maintenance of underwriting data, including schedules of property, automobiles, trustees, officers, insured physicians, named insureds, and other data, to be used for renewal of the various lines of coverage.
17.
Audit BGHS insurance coverage against specifications and proposals and validate premiums.
18.
Responsible for the development and continuing refinement of premium allocation methodologies for all property and casualty programs, to ensure that all entities have been charged adequate rates.
19.
Coordinates with the Bellin and Gundersen Legal department to direct the administration of the Self-Funded Professional Liability Trust Fund.
Track expenses and request reimbursements out of the fund.
Prepare and submit information for the audit of the trust.
20.
Special projects and other duties as assigned.
Education and Learning: REQUIRED Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Finance, Risk and Insurance Management, or a related field Work Experience: REQUIRED 7-10 years of experience in risk management in either a broker or enterprise role.
DESIRED 7-10 years’ experience in the placement or underwriting of property and casualty insurance.
3-5 years’ experience in a large hospital or healthcare system, a large healthcare related organization.
