8 FTE Ophthalmic Assistant position at the La Crosse Main Campus.
What will you do: Perform pre-testing and various diagnostic testing Ensure efficient and timely scheduling of patients for retina surgery What will this position look like: 32 hours/week, 8-hour shifts Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 pm $16.

Major Responsibilities: 1.
Perform preliminary testing procedures to include measurement and verification of visual acuity and checking intra-ocular pressures.
Interview patient to develop statement of visual history.
2.
Responsible for administering Humphrey visual field diagnostic procedures as well as OCT analysis of optic nerve and retina.
Other testing may include pentacam, pachymetery, and specular microscope.
3.
Coordinate the scheduling of various surgical procedures and preparation of pre-op paperwork.
Perform equipment maintenance and minor repairs.
May also include outreach travel.
4.
Interact with patients, pharmacies, and optical dispensaries in the release and communication of prescriptions and give appropriate advice regarding eye symptoms and problems.
5.
Certain other responsibilities may include managing and ordering supplies and inventories in department, contact lens order processing, and instruction in insertion, removal, and handling of contact lenses.
6.
May assist in minor surgical procedures including cleaning and sterilization of surgical equipment and instruments as well as assisting the surgeon in the procedure.
Could also counsel pre- and post-opeative eye surgery patients regarding eye care instructions and medication use.
7.
Support to refractive surgery program could include informing patients of preoperative and postoperative instructions, set up and clean equipment, and calculate postoperative refractive surgery results.
8.
Witness waste of controlled substances with authorized staff in the state of Wisconsin.
Will not witness waste in Minnesota and Iowa, both states require licensed individuals or registered pharmacy technician staff only to witness the waste of controlled substances.
9.
Performs other job-related responsibilities as needed to ensure successful operation of department/vision center.
Education and Learning: REQUIRED High School Diploma or equivalency DESIRED High School Diploma or equivalency + post high school education Work Experience: REQUIRED 6 months customer service and/or public relations experience.
DESIRED 1 year experience as ophthalmic assistant in ophthalmology practice or in vision services.
License and Certifications: DESIRED Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certified by JCAHPO Age Specific Population Served: Pediatric (1 - 12 years) Adolescent (13 - 17 years) Adult (18 - 64 years) Geriatric (65 years & older) OSHA Category: Category I - All Employees in this job title have a reasonably anticipated risk of occupational exposure to blood and/or other potentially infectious materials.
