_ I.
Position Summary This is a working supervisory position with the primary purpose to direct the overall operation of the Laundry and Housekeeping Department in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local requirements to assure that that highest degree of cleanliness and sanitation is maintained at all times.
Works every other weekend as part of environmental services.
Employee exercises considerable independent judgment in decision making within general guidelines under the administrative direction of the Nursing Home Administrator.
II.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities · Assists in the planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing of the department (includes department policies, procedures, job descriptions, etc.
).
· Develops and maintains a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel to assure that laundry and housekeeping services can be properly planned and maintained to meet the needs of the residents and facility.
· Assures that an adequate supply of clean laundry/linen is always maintained for resident comfort and convenience.
· Ensures that the housekeeping department’s administrative procedures are followed by assisting in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures to assure that the premises, equipment, and facility is clean, orderly, and attractive at all times.
Inspects the facility to ensure that cleanliness, storage and sanitary standards are maintained at all times.
· Assures that vacant rooms are ready for occupancy.
· Supervises/monitors work of department personnel to ensure compliance of directives and established procedures.
· Interprets policies and procedures to department personnel as necessary.
· May serve on various committees of the facility as required.
· Ensures that residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacies, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints, are following by all department personnel.
· Performs administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc.
, and submitting such to the administrator as required.
· Assists in training competent department personnel.
· Works closely with scheduler to review department timecards.
· Assists in the development of and participates in programs designed for in-service education, on-the-job training and orientation classes for newly assigned department personnel.
Follows facility Infection Control program.
· Inspects the laundry/linen areas, as directed, to ensure that cleanliness and sanitary standards are maintained at all times.
· Completes employee performance evaluations and makes recommendations to the administrator concerning hiring, terminations, transfers, etc.
· Is responsible for requisition, control, and maintenance of an adequate level of required supplies and equipment.
· Assists in evaluating and implementing recommendations from the facility’s committees, such as Infection Control.
· Maintains current written records of department expenditures and assure that adequate financial records and cost reports are submitted to the administrator as required.
Assists in the development of the department budget.
· Assures that all work/assignment areas are free of hazardous objects, such as protruding mop/broom handles, etc.
, and assure that all cleaning supplies and equipment, etc.
, are properly stored at the end of your shift/work day.
Ascertains that cleaning supplies are correctly labeled and chemicals are properly mixed.
· Assists residents in fire drills, disaster, and emergency evacuation tests.
· Serves as Material Data Sheets (MDS) Coordinator and ensures that other departments meet requirements.
Meets with department personnel, to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services.
· Communicates openly with the Human Resources Directors reporting any personnel concerns within the department.
· Works with the Human Resources department for any recruitment needs within the department.
· Review and approve bi-weekly time cards for processing by payroll.
· Reviews complaints and grievances and makes necessary and communicate with the administrator.
· During emergency conditions, ensures that clean laundry, linen, garments, etc.
, are distributed to designated areas.
· Reports all incidents/accidents, no matter how minor.
III.
Related Job Functions · May act as purchasing assistant for facility by monitoring stock levels, researching vendors, tracking orders, and maintaining purchasing records.
· Ensures that purchasing policies are developed and implemented as needed.
· Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the general public, the medical profession, and other health-related facilities and organizations, County and governmental officials and employees.
· Responsible for working safely and following safety practices and standards.
Reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, burned out lights, etc.
to maintenance or administrator immediately.
· Attends staff meetings, training sessions, and participate in workshops, seminars, etc.
, to keep abreast of current changes in the housekeeping field.
· Other duties and activities as may become necessary or as directed by the administrator.
IV.
Physical Demands · Sits, stands, bends, lifts, moves intermittently during working hours.
· Works in all areas of the facility.
· Is subject to frequent interruptions.
· Is willing to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
· Attends and participates in mandatory in-services.
· Is subject to reactions from soap, bleach, cleaning and disinfecting solutions, falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc.
· May be subjected to infectious diseases, substances, contaminated articles, blood/body fluids etc.
· Is able to move intermittently throughout the day.
· Is able to lift, push/pull heavy/wet laundry/linen, move equipment and supplies throughout the day.
· Must be able to lift, push, and move equipment and supplies throughout the work day.
Occasionally sit, bend and /or stoop, crawl and/or climb, kneel, push, work on unprotected heights, operate mechanical machinery, be exposed to marked changes in temperature and humidity, be exposed to harmful fumes and/or pollutants, simple grasping, firm grasping, lifting of up to 10, 24, 50 pounds.
Frequently stand, walk, and pull.
V.
Education and Training Requirements Graduate of an accredited high school or GED.
Preference for individual with related advanced training at a technical school and/or prior related experience with 1-2 years supervision in a health-related facility; or any suitable equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must successfully pass background check as required by OBRA regulations.
Job Type: Full-time Pay: $47,361.
60 - $52,312.
