This position is eligible for a Hybrid work schedule (3 or more days on site a week) and will be based out of our La Crosse, WI location.
Job Summary: As a Software Engineer you will be responsible for developing and maintaining a suite of software products for our Commercial HVAC business unit.
Our primary software product is the centrifugal chiller performance prediction and selection software at the heart of our engineering and sales organizations.
The selection software supports our global sales organization for Trane centrifugal (CenTraVac) chillers.
Our other software products enable engineering teams to model performance and develop new high-efficiency products worldwide.
The selected individual will partner directly with our engineering and product support teams, so success in this key role requires collaboration with subject matter experts to translate engineering and customer needs into software features and tools.
This person will be an integral software engineer in the ongoing maintenance and modernization of our engineering technology stack to deliver more sustainable software solutions and meet business needs.
Responsibilities: Collaborate with engineers to translate engineering requirements into supporting software tools.
Collaborate with product support to understand and translate customer needs.
Validate monthly software updates to ensure accuracy.
Work with IT to resolve integration issues between the selection software and GUI.
Support/troubleshoot field issues with selection software.
Continuously improve selection software efficiency, cultivate novel features, and enhance overall capability.
Explore and understand industry best practices and facilitate adoption of new practices.
Understanding of overall software portfolio and system architecture.
Coaching and Mentoring of other team members.
Participation and management of commercial software release process.
Participation in project process to develop solution approaches that meet project goals and objectives.
Estimation of work content and effort for project planning.
Utilize version control software to adhere to change management as part of our development process.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent technical degree 3+ years of relevant work experience in a software development environment, preferably software development for engineering use.
Able to demonstrate an understanding of programming logic or programming experience with at least one of the following: VB.
NET, C#, Java, C++, Fortran.
Knowledge of Python, Matlab, or other high-level data analytics language is a plus.
Database Experience, preferably with Oracle or MySQL Experience with software development and testing using Agile methodology with remote teams.
Experience with building applications using database technologies.
Experience with Application, Database, and Server Administration.
Experience with Software Lifecycle (development and deployments).
Knowledge of different System Architectures and best practices in Industry.
Knowledge of Engineering Process such as DFMEA and DVP are a bonus.
Key Competencies: Strong analytical problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and project management skills.
Understanding of the refrigeration cycle and the associated physical hardware as applied to centrifugal chillers.
Familiarity with the use of lab data to verify hardware or models.
Demonstrated ability to work directly with users to translate user feedback to development requirements, resolve user issues, and prioritize development schedule.
Interest in data science or analytics and helping teams reach conclusions supported by data.
Passion for continuous learning, innovation, and willingness to adapt to changing environments.
Strong ability to understand and define a user problem to develop solution approaches.
Effective communication with a diverse group of customers and technical experience levels.
Continuous improvement mindset and ability to understand and facilitate process improvements.
Desire to maintain and improve software documentation.
