13 Salary Type Hourly Bargaining Unit/Plan 214, MAPE Job Description This position serves as Student Life Coordinator and is the main contact for Student Life programs for Minnesota State College Southeast.
The Student Life Coordinator under the general supervision of the Dean of Students will facilitate student engagement within student organizations and campus events.
The Student Life Coordinator will also assist students in getting connected to basic needs services and resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES Facilitate a student life program for the college to ensure higher levels of student engagement and participation, increased student retention, and successful completion of educational programs.
Create strategic and operational plans that support the mission of MSC Southeast and a student life program.
Manage and monitor resources for the department including budget review, facility use, purchasing, and inventory management.
Assist in the development and implementation of welcome programming on the Winona and Red Wing campuses when needed.
Coordinate non-academic student support initiatives, such as food pantries and public transportation services.
Identify additional funding opportunities and a path forward to create sustainable campus-wide student support initiatives.
Advise students on the planning and promoting of campus-wide activities and assess the effectiveness of the events.
Through collaboration with campus departments, promote and connect community resources to the college, and connect students to those resources.
In collaboration with the Student Success team, develop peer networking opportunities to support organic student connections, resources and social identity for underserved student populations and student groups (such as parenting students, first-generation college students, underrepresented students, etc.
).
Generate awareness and strengthen basic needs resources available to students.
Assess individual student needs and identify applicable resources.
Teach students self-advocacy skills to aid in their success.
Serve as the primary student contact for the Emergency Scholarship process.
Provide direct support and referrals to students as well as provide student case management for students in SNAP E&T.
Facilitate processes for SNAP E&T grant including developing and implementing work plans, collecting and evaluating data, meeting reporting requirements, coordinating grant events, and providing support for eligible grant students.
Gather and maintain all assigned participant case records and documentation according to grant requirements.
Enter and report data using approved grant databases and procedures.
Assist in the completion of all required reports and records are in compliance with mandated deadlines, data security and privacy best practices, FERPA rules and regulations, and other pertinent policies and legislation.
Work collaboratively with the Foundation and the Business Office, and other campus stakeholders, to ensure grant activities are coordinated and integrated within appropriate college departments and offices, and that grant requirements and deadlines are met.
Support writing of grant and scholarship renewal documents.
Coordinate, promote, evaluate and strengthen student organizations and student senate making them a viable part of the campus community and ensuring higher levels of student leadership and engagement increasing student retention and successful completion of educational programs.
Serve as Student Senate Advisor.
Serve as an advisor to Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
Serve as a point of contact for student organization, helping them become a viable part of the campus community.
Work with student leaders and club advisors regarding appropriate use of student fees and compliance with college business practices.
Attend, as needed, Statewide Student Association leadership conferences.
Review and update a student organization manual.
Assist with the oversight regarding student fee allocation process in conjunction with college business office.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field Two (2) years of related experience planning, coordinating, scheduling and promoting student leadership, campus activities, recreational, social, cultural, and special events for educational, community, or business participation.
Comprehensive computer software skills, such as MS Office, web-based and social media software applications sufficient to communicate, market and present information to varied customer groups.
Strong oral and written communication skills sufficient to write, prepare, and edit materials such as memos, procedures, reports, presentations, etc.
, using correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and sentence construction and clearly explaining, marketing and/or presenting ideas and procedures to varied audiences.
Skill in group process and decision-making sufficient to lead/advise student groups in discussion and decision-making.
Ability to resolve conflicts and problems among diverse individuals and/or groups.
Able to travel between campuses and to outside events as necessary.
Able to work flexible schedule, including working evening and weekend events.
Preferred Qualifications Masters Degree in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, Counseling or other related field; Three (3) years of work experience within student life, residential life, new student orientation, or Greek life.
Ability to promote the social, cultural and recreational interests of college students sufficient to enhance or modify existing programs to maximize student interest and participation.
Experience working with a two-year community and technical college mission and its students.
Experience implementing specific student life projects for desired outcome and event success.
Experience working in a diverse community of learners.
Organizational skills sufficient to meet deadlines and multitask.
Ability to work with people in difficult or challenging situations with tact, grace, and a high level of dignity.
Experience managing budgets.
Willing to learn and understand the basic operations of each student organization, the different functions of the college, and the resources available in the community.
