JobID: 524 Position Type: Student Support Services Date Posted: 10/27/2023 Location: HVED District Office Date Available: 2023-2024 SY Closing Date: Until Filled School Counselor Hiawatha Valley Education District’s (HVED) School Counselor will provide support services to current and prospective students.
Qualifications: Master's degree in counseling; or Bachelor's degree and enrolled in an accredited school counselor program with no less than 24 semester credit hours in school-counseling-specific coursework or content, including introduction to the field, counseling skills, and ethical standards and must verify to the board in writing a plan of study of full- or part-time enrollment to achieve licensure within three years Current School Counselor license Demonstrated understanding of cultural competence Responsibilities include (but not limited to): Develops and implements behavioral and crisis interventions; administers and analyzes student needs assessments; conducts interviews with students, family, and school staff; conducts observations; creates related plans of action to meet the individual needs of students; collaborates with staff, families, outside agencies, and others in the management and support of interventions.
Plans and conducts individualized or small group sessions with students to develop, teach, and implement social/emotional support tools; discuss prevention, problem solving techniques, academics, peer relations, and issues creating barriers for their academic success; and reviews progress.
?Evaluates and makes referrals to outside providers, community resources, social services, and other programs; and collaborates and communicates with school staff, students, families, and outside resources.
?Collaborates with social services, teachers, staff, administration, and related service providers; and educates and trains staff on related topics including trauma informed strategies.
?Prepares documentation, reports and/or other correspondence including assessments, evaluation reports, progress reports, and other related paperwork, and ensures compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
?Other duties as assigned Equipment: Uses standard office equipment such as computer/laptop, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements: Travel to member districts and the HVED District Office as needed Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards: Works in school building environments and office setting.
FLSA: Exempt Hiawatha Valley Education District (HVED) provides special education services to 12 School Districts and three Charter Schools within five counties of southeast Minnesota: Fillmore, Houston, Olmsted, Wabasha, and Winona.
HVED also has a Setting IV Behavior Program, Students Achieving Integrated Services (SAIL) that provides programming for students in grades K-12 with challenging behaviors currently receiving special education services.
Along with the SAIL programs, HVED provides programming for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a program named for Specialized Programming, Education, Comprehensive Therapy and other Resources for their Unique Minds (SPECTRUM).
