The incumbent would be expected to teach courses that could include, but are not limited to (Organismal Diversity, General Ecology, Plant Ecology, Entomology, Biogeography, Agroecology, Ecosystem Ecology, Plant Taxonomy, Vertebrate Biology, Animal Behavior, Evolution, and Ornithology) Perform research involving undergraduate and Professional Science Master’s students Instruct courses in varied locations, at varied times, and via various media commensurate with department and university needs.
Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge of field.
Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities.
Contribute to student growth and development including student advising.
Provide service to the university and community including the program, the department, the college, the university, and the greater community.
Support Winona State University’s mission to enhance the intellectual, social, cultural, and economic vitality of the people and communities we serve.
Required Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate or terminal degree in Biology or related field Experience teaching lectures and laboratories in a higher education setting Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications: Skills/ability to integrate technology to enhance learning and teaching.
Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching.
Post-doctoral experience Established collaborations with local, regional, and national natural resource agencies Maintain an active research program combining field and laboratory research Experience advising (academic and research) undergraduate students Teaching that integrates working with multiple levels of biological organization Potential to develop research involving undergraduate and Professional Science Master’s students Willingness to pursue extramural funding Other Requirements A complete online application will include: 1.

A one-page research statement outlining involvement of undergraduate students About About the Department: The Biology Department at WSU is aligned with NSF PULSE Vision and Change and looks to use creative and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
Recent and future curriculum will emphasize cross-disciplinary learning throughout the sciences.
Student development and research opportunities are emphasized which includes a hands-on laboratory or field-based capstone research project for all students.
Opportunities for faculty and students to travel to present research findings in professional settings.
WSU is in the unique and biologically rich Driftless Area of the Upper Mississippi River Watershed.
The river and surrounding bluffs contain many ecologically diverse habitats harboring rare or endangered species of plants and animals, and we are centrally located on the Mississippi flyway for bird migration.
Abundant opportunities exist for collaboration with state and federal agencies in nearby parks, refuges, and wildlife management areas in the tri-state area and beyond.
The Department has a 1800 square foot greenhouse, herbarium, and vertebrate collection available on-site.
