Posting Details Position Information Recruitment Number 5574 Working Title Instructional Academic Staff Sound Designer/Sound & Lighting Supervisor Classification Title Teaching Assistant Professor Proposed Salary to be Offered $42,500 Appointment Percentage (Budget) 100% Position Summary The Department of Theatre & Dance at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse invites applications for a full-time academic staff member at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor.
The primary responsibilities of this position are to work as the Instructional Academic Staff Sound Designer/ Sound and Lighting Supervisor and to teach 1-2 courses per semester including Sound Design, Sound Engineering, and Theatre Appreciation.
Under general supervision of department chair, a person in this position is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses and advising students.
In addition to preparing for and holding classes, teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students’ work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours.
The individual is expected to maintain an active, on-going program of scholarship appropriate to the discipline.
In addition, this individual will provide service to the department, college, and university and is likely expected to provide service to the community and/or the profession.
Other duties may be assigned by the chair or dean.
Position Type Faculty/Instructional Pay Basis Academic FLSA Exempt Is this position eligible for employment sponsorship, (H1B or PERM)? No Required Qualifications MFA or appropriate graduate degree in lighting or sound design or technology, or related field, by time of the first-year personal review.
Thorough knowledge of sound technologies including digital audio recording and engineering.
Thorough knowledge of lighting technologies and theatrical electrics including wiring, rigging and DMX protocols.
Knowledge and proven ability in working with computers, specifically Macintosh and programs such as Excel, Word, Vectorworks and/or AutoCad, Lightwright and Qlab.
Ability and willingness to work some nights and weekends Preferred Qualifications Professional experience as a Master Electrician or Sound Technician Experience as a live mixing engineer on musicals Demonstrated experience working within budgetary limits and in identifying and estimating expenses.
Knowledge of safety procedures and OSHA regulations Demonstrated ability to initiate, organize, and complete projects on time and under tight deadlines, and to keep several jobs moving forward at once.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
Skilled in problem solving, creating contingency plans, and maintaining pose in stressful situations.
Experience as a college instructor and/or working with student crews.

Working conditions and environment Ability to work a long day which may include morning classes and evening rehearsals multiple days each week.
Working on or near the stage as designed for individual productions.
This could include raked floors, stairs, raised platforms, etc.
Participation in weekend technical rehearsals or performances as appropriate.
