The Assistant Director of the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) promotes student success by supporting faculty and staff in the reflective practice of innovative and inclusive pedagogy and by providing a space for interdisciplinary collaboration and professional development grounded in the latest research on learning and teaching.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Director of CELT researches, articulates, and disseminates innovative best practices in faculty development, teaching, learning and technology, across instructional modalities.
The Assistant Director of CELT collaborates with campus stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and Office of Student Success staff to envision and implement comprehensive faculty professional development related to teaching and learning.
This includes identifying training needs, coordinating with subject matter experts to design and develop learning opportunities for faculty in the realm of pedagogy.
Specific Responsibilities of the Assistant Director of CELT Include:
Collaborate with the Dean of Student Success to recognize themes for annual faculty development programming, including workshops, course design institutes, and special events.
Design and implement a structure for individual pedagogical consultation
Work in collaboration with Faculty Fellows to develop and implement topic-specific faculty development opportunities.
Collaborate with the Dean of Student Success on monthly CELT Notes newsletters.
Partner with the Associate Provost, Dean of Student Success, and Human Resources to onboard new faculty.
Organize CELT annual programing, including faculty learning communities (FLCs)
Mentoring Trios, and Teaching Partnerships.
Collaborate with the instructional designer, instructional technologist, and OSS staff to train faculty on LMS, educational technology, and accessibility tools.
Maintain CELT event calendar, sign up sheets, and website.
May sit on relevant work teams including the Instructional Technology Team (ITT).
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:
Masters degree in relevant discipline.
At least three years of college teaching experience.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to maintain membership in professional organizations related to faculty development.
Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Train and supervise CELT student workers, typically 1-2 per year.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Occasional evening and/or weekend work.
Travel for continued faculty development training.
