The GCA will work as a team member with other practice staff and consistently project a professional and courteous demeanor.
They must pay close attention to detail and demonstrate excellent customer service skills with patients and staff in accordance with the vision and mission of Gundersen Health System.
Major Responsibilities: 1.
Draw and update patient pedigrees using Progeny pedigree drawing software and patient history forms and EPIC.
2.
Maintain database/track patients who require authorization for genetic testing and communicate approvals to patients.
3.
Maintain database/track pending results for genetic testing and communicate finding with Genetic Counselors.
4.
Contact labs about tests out of turnaround time or to respond to inquiries about corrections to test requisitions.
5.
Ensure that patient charts are prepared for clinic and obtain insurance approval for necessary laboratory studies.
6.
Assist genetic counselors with administrative tasks such as sending faxes, making copies, writing letters of medical necessity, preparing test requisitions, working on mailings and completing any additional paperwork, etc.
7.
Process calls and requests from patients and outside facilities.
8.
Call to obtain results or additional records from various hospital departments, outside laboratories, and/or physician offices prior to the appointment or as requested for emergent inpatient consults.
9.
Perform literature reviews under the guidance of the Genetic Counselor.
10.
Create patient-centered handouts.
12.
Communicate negative/reassuring patient results if/when appropriate.
13.
Help coordinate blood draws at outside facilities.
14.
Contact patients ahead of sessions to request they send or bring in copies of familial test reports.
15.
Perform other job-related responsibilities as requested, including other patient preparation and follow-up tasks.
Education and Learning: REQUIRED Bachelor's degree in Biology or Science or Health Sciences or Medical Field Work Experience: DESIRED 6 months to one year of previous experience with clinical projects, either administrative or clinical role; experience with patient and or family contact in a community or medical setting.
