Job Overview:
The Assistant Teacher works collaboratively with a Lead Teacher, other Assistant Teachers and Aides to maintain a peaceful, clean, and safe Montessori classroom environment.
Essential Functions:
* Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher, plan individual and small group Montessori activities to stimulate growth in all Early Childhood Indicators of Progress as outlined by the MN Department of Education
* Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher, develop and plan instructional activities, daily lesson plans, and / or individual learning plans as required by the learning needs of the students
* Maintain a peaceful and safe classroom environment while the Lead Teacher is engaged in lessons
* Independently carry out the daily activities and routines of the classroom
* Communicate clearly and respectfully with other employees
* Maintain records, as required by the Minnesota Department of Education, Minnesota DHS Licensing, and Accrediting organizations
* Maintain accurate and complete student records
* Step into a lead teacher role when the lead teacher is not present, ability to be completely responsible for the students and learning environment
* Assist students with toileting
* Competently use email, google drive, google calendar, and other digital communication tools
* Participate in extracurricular activities and events
* Maintain healthy boundaries and equitable relationships that respect each child as an individual
* Maintain professional competencies and participate in professional development
* Responsible for appropriate adult coverage in classroom
* Comfortably interact with families and communicate professionally
* Other duties as needed to successfully maintain a licensed Montessori learning environment
Physical Demands:
* Ability to bend, go to floor level, and regularly work on the floor with students
* Ability to lift 30 pounds
* The ability to be self directed and work independently
* Ability to safely work in an early childhood environment where there is a high level of contagious illness.
* Ability to work outside in both summer and winter climates
Education and Experience:
* BA or BS in education or related field (preferred)
* At least 2 years of experience in an early childhood setting
